BUS194 - Public Procurement

Catalog Description: Introduce public procurement principles and relevant applications by integrating concepts from a legal, ethical, and documentation oriented standpoint.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:

1.Summarize the function of government procurement.
2.Differentiate between ethical and unethical procurement procedures.
3.Explain how laws or regulations are applied to the practice of public procurement.
4.Identify different procurement methods and the contexts in which each method is the most appropriate to be utilized.
5.Describe public procurement policies and procedures that are unique to New York State.
6.Review contract documents accurately for content and applicability to a given situation.
7.Evaluate an RFP (Request for Proposals) to determine compliance with all applicable purchasing laws to assess whether it will meet the needs of an organization.*
8.Identify correct documentation that needs to be stored and accessible for public records.

* This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the Comprehensive Assessment Plan of the college.
