Computer Information Systems Courses:
CIS112 - Systems Analysis and Design
Catalog Description: Studies the evolution of system analysis specification, selection, and implementation. Includes the effective use and management of data processing equipment in meeting the information needs of today's business enterprise. Spring only. Prerequisite: CIS125.
Lecture: 3 hrs.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
At the conclusion of the course, as documented by written assignments, small group discussions/assignments, and projects students will be able to
1.) Compare and contrast the role of a system analyst versus business users in computer systems problem solving within an organization.
2.) Demonstrate in a computer print-out a minimum of one aspect of computer-aided system engineering used in system development.
3.) Compare and contrast the advantages and disadvantages of at least 2 different information gathering techniques.
4.) Using Access demonstrate the database concepts required of a systems analyst, by creating a relational database.
5.)Using Access, Visual basic, or other designated software applications, create at least two interface prototypes.
6.) Explain at least five considerations in user interface design.
7.) Develop in writing a questionnaire / interview questions with a minimum of ten questions demonstrating information gathering methods used by a systems analyst. *
8.) Develop in writing and in a computer prototype a system to meet the needs of a theoretical business user.
* This course objective has been identified as a student learning outcome that must be formally assessed as part of the Comprehensive Assessment Plan of the college. All faculty teaching this course must collect the required data and submit the required analysis and documentation at the conclusion of the semester to the Office of Institutional Research and Assessment.
