DAN296 - Dance for Musical Theatre

Credits: 3

Catalog Description: Introduces student to contemporary/popular musical theatre movement techniques and choreographers. Surveys history and aesthetics of the time period selected through studio work, video, film, text and discussion. Includes rehearsal and performance of a final dance project.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Describe the contributions of selected choreographers.
2. Perform a section of choreography from a selected musical theatre show.
3. Describe musical theatre etiquette.
4. Choreograph a short dance phrase in the style of the choreographer selected.
5. Identify specific choreography from a selected musical.
6. Define terms in basic dance vocabulary.
7. Describe the role of dance in the musical theatre world.
8. Critique a live musical theatre performance.
