EGR108 - Manufacturing Processes

Credits: 3

Catalog Description: Explores the structure of the manufacturing industry and the methods, processes and materials associated with them. Topics include structure of industry, general manufacturing processes, primary metals industry, casting, forging, machining, metal fastenings, integrated circuit manufacturing, plastic, glass and ceramic processing. Fall only.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Differentiate materials used in product manufacturing
2. Compare various types of manufacturing processing
3. Identify casting/molding process used for converting liquid raw materials into solid products
4. Describe various forming processes using force to deform solid metals into new shapes
5. Identify the family of separation processes that remove excess materials to change a product (size, shape and/or surface finishing)
6. Describe various conditioning processes which alter internal structure of a product to improve properties
7. Compare assembly techniques to join two or more parts into finished products
