HUS110 - Internship in Human Services 1

Credits: 3

Catalog Description: Internship placement in conjunction with weekly class seminar designed to integrate theory with practical application to further develop professional Human Services helping values, knowledge, skills and behaviors. Placement must be instructor approved with site supervision by a qualified human services worker. Minimum of 125 internship hours per semester (average of at least 8 hours per week). Prerequisite: HUS101

Lecture: 1.5 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Explain how one's own ethical standards compare to both those of the internship agency as well as to the ethical standards for human service professionals.
2. Perform on site duties (as outlined by goals and objectives) with agency supervision.
3. Summarize internship agency's organization and operations.
4. Identify systems (personal, professional, political, social, cultural, and other diversity factors) that affect client care and best practice standards.
5. Communicate effectively within human service environments amongst colleagues and clients.
6. Adhere to client confidentiality standards.
7. Practice professional behaviors that would meet/exceed standards of any human services agency.
8. Reflect on one's own performance and ability to improve clinical knowledge and skill.
