LIT218 - British Literature : Romantic Period to the Present

Catalog Description: Focuses on the study of British literature from the Romantic Period to present day. Examines the nature of British culture as expressed through a variety of literary genres and historical periods. Analysis via various literary critical approaches. Computer use required for online sections. Prerequisite: ENG 101.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Describe the historical and social context of literary works within their appropriate periods;
2. Relate aspects of historical literature pieces to contemporary personal experiences;
3. Describe how the historic and social events and trends are reflected in the literature of the time;
4. Apply at least one literary critical method to British literature since the Restoration Period;
5. Identify influential writers of British literature since the Restoration Period;
6. Identify landmark literary works published since the Restoration Period;
7. Apply the rules of mechanics correctly in written work;
8. Employ credible academic sources as part of literary research;
9. Create coherent written critiques of works of literature.
