NUR131 - Introduction to Associate Degree Nursing
Catalog Description: Familiarizes the LPN transition student with the GCC Nursing Program philosophy, objectives, outcomes, policies, and organizing framework. Updates and enhances student learning related to critical thinking skills, math and dosage calculations. Prepares students for entry into the clinical sequence of second level nursing courses. One and a half class hours and one and a half laboratory hours. Prerequisites: Successful completion of NUR 130 and current LPN registration in a US jurisdiction.
Lecture: 1.5 hrs.
Lab: 1.5 hrs.

Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:

1. Accurately calculate dosages for medications and flow rates for intravenous infusions. Students will achieve a score of 90% or greater on the dosage calculation test.
2. Apply knowledge of medications to patient care situations. Students will correctly identify medication classifications in simulated clinical experiences and on unit exams.
3. Apply the nursing process and critical thinking to patient care situations. Students will demonstrate mastery of course content on unit exams and in simulated clinical experiences.
4. Demonstrate proficiency in selected clinical skills in the laboratory setting and in simulated clinical experiences.
