PSG116 - Sleep Disorders

Credits: 3

Catalog Description: This course is designed to provide the basic information related to the disease processes and conditions which adversely affect sleep. The etiologies, clinical presentation, diagnosis and therapeutic interventions will be covered for each condition. Prerequisites: PSG 105, PSG 110 and PSG LB1 each with a grade of ā€˜Cā€™ or higher. Prerequisite or corequisite: BIO 150 or BIO 152 or BIO 153.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Discuss the importance of sleep and the significance of sleep deprivation.
2. Discuss why the human body and mind need sleep.
3. Identify and describe the circadian rhythm and its effect on our daily lives.
4. Discuss normal sleep patterns.
5. Discuss how the normal aging process affects sleep.
6. Explain how different drugs can affect sleep.
7. Explain how pregnancy can affect sleep.
