SOC102 - Social Problems

Catalog Description: Examines social problems such as racism, inequality, sexism, delinquency, deviancy, urban growth, over-population, and global stratification. Studies social problems and their sources, theoretical approaches to the study and potential resolution of social problems. Prerequisite: SOC101.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Identify and describe a variety of research methodologies used to study social problems.
2. Discuss a variety of major theoretical perspectives regarding social problems (functionalist, conflict, symbolic interactionist, etc.)
3. Discuss a variety of societal responses to social problems.
4. Discuss and debate various social interventions to specific social problems.
5. Relate current social problems to their own experiences.
