SPE109 - Interpersonal Communication

Catalog Description: Introduces communication theories affecting interpersonal and small group situations. Students participate in a limited number of group and role-playing activities in order to demonstrate the theoretical aspects of the process of interpersonal communication.

Lecture: 3 hrs.

Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Identify theories of interpersonal communication.
2. Explain theories of interpersonal communication.
3. Describe active listening strategies.
4. Apply effective communication principles in experiential learning settings.
5. Experiment with a variety of collaborative or teamwork-based presentations.
6. Appraise collaborative or teamwork-based presentations.
7. Discuss the role of empathy in creating effective group communications.
8. Evaluate the effectiveness of various verbal and nonverbal communication skills.
