VET201 - Animal Clinic Externship 1
Catalog Description: Catalog Description: Familiarize the student with the veterinary technician’s responsibilities in the day to day operation of private /non private practices. Students spend time at private/non private practices observing in the areas of general facility management, anesthesia, routine treatments, radiology, laboratory procedures and surgery. As a result of observation of the veterinary technician in a practical applied atmosphere, students will become more familiar with the scope of the veterinary technician as a professional member of the veterinary team. Prerequisite: BIO 124, BIO LB4, VET 124, VET 223, and VET LB3 each with a grade of ‘C’ or higher.
Lab: 6 hrs.
Course Learning Outcomes (CLOs):
Upon the successful completion of this course, a student will be able to:
1. Demonstrate the characteristics of a quality employee (good attendance, punctual, motivated, positive attitude, good judgment).
2. Apply knowledge of didactic and hands-on learning from the classroom to medical cases, laboratory procedures or client interaction at the externship site.
3. Protect the confidentiality of client and patient information.
4. Interact professionally with clients or staff members in the work environment.
