SUNY GCC - Genesee Community College

Why Participate?

The NSO program is designed to facilitate a smooth transition into the GCC community by educating students and their families on the academic and social opportunities and responsibilities expected at Genesee. Students are highly encouraged to participate in NSO for several reasons, including but not limited to:

  • First step to a successful transition to the GCC community;
  • Meet other new students and the professors who will be teaching your classes;
  • Acclimate you to new surroundings and resources;
  • Identify ways to become involved on campus.

The NSO program provides you with an introduction to GCC and will give you an opportunity to develop your own conclusions and ideas. Each campus location will be participating so you can get the same information no matter where you participate from!

If you have any questions, please contact Kelly Starchok (ksstarchok@genesee.edu), Director of Student Engagement & Inclusion.

Weeks of Welcome

Weeks of Welcome (WOW) at Genesee Community College occur in the first weeks of classes.  Programs are a co-sponsored effort between the Office of Student Engagement & Inclusion and a number of campus partners, as well as area community agencies to “kick-off’ the semester and welcome both new and returning students to GCC.

WOW provides events and activities that promote engagement on campus by meeting new people, reconnecting with old friends and acquaintances, learning important information, and just having FUN! Be sure to attend as many of the events as you can during the week, and get just a taste of what GCC has to offer!

Orientation Leaders

OLs are current students who work over the summer as GCC ambassadors assisting with fall and spring orientation programs for first-time students, transfer students, and their parents & family members. OLs continue to serve throughout the year as mentors and share their experience as successful students to aid in the transition process for incoming first-time and transfer students.
